The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 imposes strict mandatory obligations on certain types of building work to Stevenage properties. One of these obligations is the signing of a Party Wall Agreement between you and the owner of your neighbouring Stevenage property.
If you are considering undertaking any work to your Stevenage home or commercial property, which involves an internal or external wall shared with your Stevenage neighbour(s), you will likely need to put a Party Wall Agreement in place.
The Party Wall Agreement must be in place before the work to your Stevenage property goes ahead.
The only circumstances in which work to a party wall within your Stevenage property may go ahead without a Party Wall Agreement are:
- When you have written consent from your Stevenage neighbour, received in the time stated on a served Party Wall Notice, that the work can go ahead as stated.
- The work you are intending to complete is essentially cosmetic and will not impact your neighbours property for instance putting up shelving or kitchen cupboards, replastering or inserting power sockets.
