The Party Wall Act became legislation in 1996. That same year Jordan Brettell was formed to help homeowners and commercial property owners in the Barnet area navigate and comply with The Party Wall Act.
The Party Wall Act seeks to enable Barnet property owners to develop, extend and improve their properties whilst protecting the rights of the neighbouring Barnet properties.
As the owner of a Barnet property, wishing to undertake development that impacts a party wall, the Party Wall Act places certain obligations upon you. The initial obligation of The Party Wall Act is to let your Barnet neighbour know in writing what your building work will involve and when you propose to begin.
At this stage, if you do not receive written consent from your Barnet neighbours, your obligation is to appoint a Party Wall Surveyor to agree a Party Wall Agreement.
This Party Wall Agreement, as determined by The Party Wall Act is to spell out the conditions of how the work will be carried out and when, so as to protect the adjoining Barnet property and their interests.
If you would like to appoint the services of an experienced Party Wall Surveyor as you seek to comply with the Party Wall Act during the building work on your Barnet property, please contact Jordan Brettell on 07815 051255 today. We would welcome your call.
